In November, an update that linked social profiles with personalities was launched - limited to the likes of famous bands, celebrities and political figures. This new update means that brand searches will now show links to social network profiles outside of just Google+.

Google’s Zineb Ait Bahajji announced that using structured data mark-up, the following social profiles can be added to the knowledge graph:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • Instagram
  • YouTube
  • LinkedIn
  • Myspace

Consumers have been using social channels to engage with brands for years now so it’s no surprise that social profile links have been pulled into the knowledge graph box for corporate brands.

This is an interesting development and we’ll be closely monitoring if there is any subsequent impact on the visibility of social profiles within the web results for brand terms.
