You want to work with team members and with clients, but you haven't got the experience to run campaigns yourself. What role should you apply for?

Sounds like you are a plum candidate for an Account Executive role within a digital agency. But what makes a good Account Exec, and what can you expect from the role?

Enthusiasm

Showing a get-up-and-go attitude is key. If you are enthusiastic about everything you do, this is a major start. Show you are up for a challenge and that you will give everything your best effort.

Willingness to learn

In an entry level position, you need to be like a sponge. There is information that will float all around you, every day - soak it up, write it down, remember it and use it. Being comfortable in picking new things up, a desire to learn and using what you learn in practice is massive.

Passion for your subject

When looking for Account Execs, Epiphany go for people who show an interest in digital marketing and search. Whether this is specific to people who have industry and product knowledge on SEO, PPC, conversion rate optimisation and web design and development, or just people who spend every waking hour on the web. Showing interest in the subject area is huge.

Presentation

Being an Account Exec is training ground to become an Account Manager. How you present and conduct yourself in meetings is very important. You need to be professional, formal yet approachable and show good communication skills.

Be helpful

It may sound obvious, but the best Account Execs have a "hands up" approach. That means if someone needs help on a certain task, offering a hand to assist is vital. An Account Exec should expect to have tasks thrown at them and should be able to juggle multiple pieces of work at one time. They should be ready for working with different people in different teams, and with multiple clients.

Digital marketing is a great field to work in; it's a fast growing industry which moves with the technology market and is one of the most accountable forms of marketing available to brands in this day and age. It's innovative, fast paced and youthful as a strand of marketing.

With social media only set to grow, harnessing the power of this is critical to any brand, which puts a career in digital marketing right in the middle of future brand marketing plans.
