It seems we are spoilt with inspiring examples of design and creative content these days; as expected, the digital world is at the forefront of all this innovation. If you are to target an increasingly savvy customer, any form of advertising has to be not only clever but also visually superior to all competitors.

It seems we are spoilt with inspiring examples of design and creative content these days; as expected, the digital world is at the forefront of all this innovation. If you are to target an increasingly savvy customer, any form of advertising has to be not only clever but also visually superior to all competitors.

Customers today are visual magpies, who not only absorb the shiniest online experience, but also share this to the rest of the world - literally. Social media has become a powerful tool with ever increasing number of users, tweeters, pinners and likers.

This means that if an online campaign is hoping to capture the market’s imagination, it will need to be not only aesthetically stunning but gain the full power of those social media enthusiasts to boost it into online orbit.

Here is my pick of recent online experiences that have stood out from the crowd for all the right reasons.

Prometheus

For the release of the eagerly anticipated prequel to the Alien film by Ridley Scott, some hot shot came up with this beauty of a site. A fully working site for Weyland Industries, very clever and visually enticing. It seems to have gone down well with Joe public too - 448k Facebook likes, 4758 Tweats and 2.6k thumbs up from Google+.

Skull Candy

A nice scrolling site which flips you up, down and all around. It has to appeal to a young market, who are often harder to keep interested, and it does just that with some trendy design and engaging navigation.

Clouds Over Cuba

Marking sixty years since the Cuban Missle Crisis, this documentary style site looks at the full facts and figures and also a feature focusing on what would have happened if the nukes would have come raining down. A beautiful site with great content. You can even follow JFK on twitter.

Nissan

Very cool simple Japanese site that fully engages the user. A scroll through driving adventure, nice fresh feel to this with clever animation and thousands of social media thumbs up. Job well done. Share the best examples you have come across by leaving a comment below!
