According to the 1,200 women and men who responded to the third annual sex survey by US magazines Shape and Men's Fitness, your smart phone or laptop is your friend in the search to find and connect with new partners – nearly 80% of women and 58% of men said that using social media tools leads to sex faster! The majority are doing research before they meet, with 70% of women and 63% of men using Google and other online sites to gather information on their prospective date. Once a couple, 72% of women admitted to looking for their other half’s exes on Facebook. Looks like these tools are also helpful in trying to prevent against crushing rejection, as 65% of those polled had been asked out by text and 49% via a Facebook message – that way you don’t risk the loaded silence as someone tries to find the words to say no thanks politely or laughs incredulously! Either that, or for the lazy lothario, it’s an easy way to ask multiple people out in one go!
This more impersonal approach is also carried through to the demise of a relationship – 43% of women and 27% of men had been dumped via text. But be careful, they may still be keeping an eye on you – 75% admitted to constantly checking an ex’s page. It’s not surprising that people are using these sites, they use for their everyday life, for managing their love life too. Whilst social media is taking the scariness out of plucking up the courage to ask someone out and/or dump them, it’s not going to shield you from anyone breaking your heart…!
