On my recent trip to America, I noticed a man in front of me in the queue using his iPhone to check in for his flight. I didn’t think much of it at the time until I saw him pull his phone out again at the gate. As I moved closer, without appearing like a stalker, I was face to face with a Quick Response code displayed proudly on the screen that allowed the traveller to check in via mobile. This made me feel like I was living in the Stone Age as I do not have a compatible phone that permits me to download such an app. While I may be part of the small minority who is behind in the mobile world, the QR code is certainly not a new advancement. A new feature was announced recently by Google but went slightly under the radar when compared to their announcement of Google Analytics Premium.

I think what Google has done is pretty remarkable. Google Analytics is on more than 50% of the busiest websites in the world. To be able to take, crunch and display all that data within one to two seconds is seriously impressive. (more…)

Complaining About Public Transport has Never Been so Easy!

This week saw the launch of a website that aims to unite people in their grumbling about problems about public transport, but with the intention of seeing these issues resolved. FixMyTransport is a website, in beta, that aims to flag up issues on our public transport system by way of crowdsourcing.

Users of the site can report problems or issues and upload them to the site. You can proactively gather support by sharing via Facebook, email and Twitter. However, those that spot that you’re highlighting the same problem as they have can ‘support,’ and also follow its progress. (more…)
