Gone is the ugly ‘o_O’ avatar! For those who don’t know what I’m talking about, users who never chose to upload a profile picture will have been presented with a somewhat odd looking avatar. If you take a look below, here’s what I’m talking about:

From AAAAGGHH to Ahhhhhh…

If you were to look at the default profile picture as of yesterday, you would notice a much more vibrant colour selection and professional default picture with a white silhouette of the Twitter Bird.

There has been the odd hiccup with the new profile picture whereby some users have lost their profile picture temporarily and it has been replaced with the new avatar. A ‘bug’ that happened accidentally on purpose to promote the new image?

You may have also noticed an update to the profile pages with users telling us of changes to the follow button. It is now a bar which stretches across the page with the added options of ‘@mention’ and ‘block user’ options. Combine all of this with the addition of four more themes and the addition of Doug Bowman, formerly of Google’s creative department; I’m sure we’ll be seeing more eye-pleasing twitter designs and improvements in the future.
