It’s Not Easy Being Popular…

Facebook

We have already heard that Facebook is one of the main causes for divorce, but how many of you feel pressure and stress when using the social networking site? I have on many occasions sat for a while to try and think of something mildly funny to say to my audience, or if I have not said anything for a while, felt the pressure to do so. I have also had cringy moments where I have not wanted to accept someone’s friend request. Just because I met them with a friend of a friend’s friend 10 years ago does not mean I want to be friends now and for them to look through all my personal information and photographs.

Anyway new research has uncovered that I am not alone in thinking this. Dr Kathy Charles has led a recent study at Edinburgh Napier University which has found the following:

  • One in 10 said Facebook made them feel anxious
  • Three in 10 said they felt guilty about rejecting friend requests
  • 12% said they disliked receiving friend requests
  • 63% said they delayed replying to friend requests.

If it causes stress related problems, why not close down the account and withdraw from Facebook?! That would be the easy option! Apparently we are all too nosey to do this and are scared of missing out on that valuable piece of information or update!

Its addictive!
