Become a Pro Googler
So, you want to be Pro Googler? Well, Google want you to become a Pro too!
Everyone knows how to use Google, right? Well, yes and no – according to Google. Google aren’t too sure about their users working knowledge of all the extra functions that add extra dimensions to the search engine. So guess what? Google wants to show you!
For example, did you know that the Google search box can be used as a calculator or a convertor? Go on, give it a go – type in ’100 pounds to stone’ and see a whole new side to Google. Also, have you noticed if you search for Leeds cinema listings that they will be displayed within the natural search results?
Google is now offering free online community-based courses “Power Searching with Google”, which involve taking six 50 minute classes, at your own pace, within a two week period in July.
Dan Russel, a Google Senior Research Scientist, recently explained in an interview what these online search classes are all about:
“This is open to everyone, from beginner searchers to people who already know some of the tricks of the trade, for example, you can use the search box as a calculator or filter for images by colour.”
The online classes, which have been accepting sign up’s from potential “students” since June, aim to explain useful tips and tricks, for example – how users can easily improve their searches and use various tools such as Google+, Google Group and Google hangouts.
